Week 3 of the TSN CFL Fantasy football game will present players with a chance to take advantage of potential bargains who used Week 2 to establish themselves as solid options to fit into the $40,000 salary cap.
Winnipeg pivot Chris Streveler ($6,217) tops the list of potential bargains following a league-best 37.6 Fantasy Points in the Blue Bombers’ 56-10 win over the Alouettes. The rookie hasn’t played like a newcomer, leading the league with six touchdown passes while also ranking fourth in the CFL with 128 yards. Streveler, who is also tied for the league lead with five runs of 10 yards or more, is a name trending upward as the Bombers visit Jeremiah Masoli ($9,950) and the Tiger-Cats on Friday evening.
Masoli may have found a potential backfield mate in running back Mercer Timmis, who ran through the Edmonton defence for 133 yards and two touchdowns in Hamilton’s 38-21 victory. Coming in at just $3,000, Timmis cracks the top half of this week’s rankings at running back and may have given the Tiger-Cats an effective answer to the issues of their running game after projected starter Alex Green was placed on the injured list prior to Week 1.

After ranking first among running backs in Week 1, Esks’ CJ Gable got dethroned in Week 2 with his 8 point performance in Fantasy. (The Canadian Press)
Fantasy players should continue to play Edmonton’s D’haquille Williams, who scored 20.5 FP last week and comes into Friday’s game against BC ranked seventh overall among receivers. While there are 19 other pass catchers that are more expensive than Williams, his strong start to the regular season assures that his time of being a bargain dims with each long connection he hauls in from Mike Reilly ($14,000).
On the other end of the spectrum, Eskimos running back C.J. Gable and his $6,474 salary has been anything but productive for those who’ve played him the first two weeks. Atop the RB rankings in Week 2, Gable had just 8.0 Fantasy points in the loss to the Tiger-Cats and has just 93 total yards from scrimmage thus far. He’s fourth in this week’s rankings and in need of restoring the confidence of Fantasy players when Edmonton hosts BC.
Uncertainty at both quarterback and running back has made the Roughriders a tough play for Week 3. With Zach Collaros ($6,232) in the concussion protocol, Brandon Bridge ($6,000) could get the start for Saskatchewan against Montreal on Saturday evening. Running back Jerome Messam ($3,959) fell to 10th in this week’s rankings, while backup Tre Mason is 12th. The situation could carry to receiver, where Naaman Roosevelt ($5,162) falls out of the Top 10 at the position and Duron Carter is off this week’s list of available receivers as he is slated to play defensive back for at least another week.

Edmonton, Hamilton and Ottawa dominate the receiver rankings with seven of the top 10 belonging to the three squads, with Eskimos standout Derel Walker ($6,894) atop the rankings for a second straight week.
REDBLACKS running back William Powell ($8,333) is the most expensive non-QB this week and is the top choice at the position, while Don Jackson of the Stampeders ($3,500), who leads the league with 210 rushing yards, is second. Stamps teammate Terry Williams, who put up nearly 230 all-purpose yards last week, is 10th at $4,562.
Reilly continues atop the quarterback rankings, with Calgary’s Bo Levi Mitchell ($8,162) ranked second this week, followed by Masoli and Ottawa’s Trevor Harris ($9,680).
Saskatchewan’s defence is the unit to grab at $4,466 going into their contest against Montreal. Four defences are holding $3,200 salaries this week, with Ottawa, Montreal, Edmonton and BC both presenting risky options for Fantasy players to consider adding a higher salary at another position.
