Weekly Predictor: Who will win the battle for the West?

CFL.ca

After hitting on three out of four games last weekend in CFL Pick ‘Em, Jamie Nye started Week 16 off right by correctly picking the Toronto Argonauts in Tuesday night’s matchup with the Ottawa REDBLACKS in the nation’s capital. With a busy Thanksgiving Weekend and four more games on tap, can Nye follow up his early-week success?

Nothing will come easy this week, including in Calgary where the Esks and Stamps clash for first place in the West in their third and final meeting this season. Here are Nye’s Week 16 picks:

Saskatchewan vs. Hamilton

Jeff Mathews gets his second shot at it after nearly beating the Calgary Stampeders in his first CFL start. The last drive for Hamilton showed that the Ticats’ replacement can get the job done. He’ll be better this week against a defence that was just lit up by a second-time starter. Will we see a desperate Riders team fighting for its life, or a team that admitted it wasn’t ready to go in B.C. last week?

PICK: Hamilton with 99% confidence

Edmonton vs. Calgary

Since Mike Reilly has returned, the Eskimos have won four straight games. The Calgary Stampeders have needed late game heroics the last couple of weeks. The game of the week will see the Eskimos trying to take over top spot and win the season series against the Stampeders for the first time since 2011. Reilly is getting rhythm with not only Adarius Bowman but Kenny Stafford, Derel Walker and others in the Eskimos’ offence. The Stampeders will hope Jon Cornish can roll, as they didn’t have him in their first two games against Edmonton this season.

PICK: Edmonton with 10% confidence

Winnipeg vs. BC

After a pair of heartbreaking losses, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers now face a team riding high with a young and confident quarterback with Jon Jennings. Better news for the Lions is Travis Lulay is getting closer and closer to returning. Andrew Harris was just fine, dealing with a rib injury and their defence was ruthless. Winnipeg has played tough and lost close games in back to back weeks but the Bombers’ last win in their last eight games, dating back to July 30th was against Saskatchewan.

PICK: B.C. with 66% confidence

Toronto vs. Montreal

Trevor Harris’ performance on Tuesday night has to have Argos fans revved up for a crazy finish in the East Division. Meanwhile, the Alouettes are fighting now for a crossover to the West Division. The Als defence will be looking to reassert itself after Henry Burris lit that unit up for a record breaking day at 500-plus yards. But I don’t see the Argonauts slowing down, with a dynamic receiving corps.

PICK: Toronto with 75% confidence
