Weekly Predictor: Can the REDBLACKS win off the bye?

Which Week 12 game does Nye have the most confidence in predicting?

Last week, Nye went 2-2 in his predictions. This week, he is feeling the most confident in a division leader.

Let’s start with an explanation of the confidence percentage. The feature in CFL Pick ‘Em is an extra bonus to show just how confident you are a team will win. For instance, if you think the Lions will win but think the REDBLACKS also have a good chance you may only want to put an extra 10 points, but if you think there is a slim chance the REDBLACKS can win, you likely want to slide that gauge into the 90s or all the way to 100.

Hamilton vs. Toronto

The Argonauts are in need of a big time win over their rival after losing the season series and falling deeper behind the Tiger-Cats in the Eastern standings. The Argos now have home field advantage and both teams have little time to make the adjustments from the game plan last week with just three days off between games. For that reason, I don’t see the Argonauts able to make up the 30 point deficit they suffered last week. Zach Collaros and the Tiger-Cats followed up a down performance two weeks ago with an MOP-like day on Monday. He won’t get such gaudy numbers this time but a wins a win.

PICK: Hamilton with 80% confidence

Saskatchewan vs. Winnipeg

The Riders rode the home field advantage and an excited crowd to a 18-point win on Sunday against these same Bombers. After a slow start from the Riders, they outscored Winnipeg 37-9 in the final three quarters of that game. Now the Bombers make a change to the coaching staff and at quarterback. Major changes in Saskatchewan seemed to spark the team, we’ll see if the same goes in Winnipeg, though the changes are no where near as significant as the ones the Riders made. I’ve got Saskatchewan again but by a field goal or less.

PICK: Saskatchewan with 25% confidence

Calgary vs. Edmonton

I’ll be honest, I changed my pick last minute to Calgary when I saw the change to the offensive line by the Eskimos. They certainly did their best to sure that up with the signing of Matt O’Donnell and trading for Chris Greaves. I may do the same this week as I’m going on the assumption that Mike Reilly starts at quarterback. He seemed to provide a spark to his team as they got their leader back behind centre in the fourth quarter and nearly staged a comeback. Both defenses were on the top of their game but I feel like the Eskimos end their drought against the Stamps in this Labour Day rematch. If no Mike Reilly, I’m going Stamps with a straight up pick ’em.

PICK: Edmonton with 30% confidence

Ottawa vs. BC

Travis Lulay is injured again and now it’s John Beck’s turn to run the Lions offence. He did some good and some bad in Montreal, though was able to get the win on a tough road trip for the Leos. Ottawa now makes that long trip west but with it being a matinee, the time change doesn’t factor in here. The REDBLACKS showed a strong running game last time out and the Alouettes did tear up some yards on the ground in that loss. I’m going with the road team in this one.

PICK: Ottawa with 50% confidence
