Which game does Nye believe is a toss up?
Last week, Nye fell thorugh on his prediction of the Eskimos topping the Lions. This week, he is putting most of his support behind a pair of teams from the East.
Let’s start with an explanation of the confidence percentage. The feature in CFL Pick ‘Em is an extra bonus to show just how confident you are a team will win. For instance, if you think the Tiger-Cats will win but think the Lions also have a good chance you may only want to put an extra 10 points, but if you think there is a slim chance the Lions can win, you likely want to slide that gauge into the 90s or all the way to 100.
Edmonton vs. Montreal
This is a great matchup for fans of defensive football. You have two teams playing without their number one quarterbacks, but have been able to find a way to stay at or near the top of their divisions. Edmonton will want to seek redemption for giving up a second half lead to the B.C. Lions and the Alouettes lost by an identical 26-23 margin on the road. Rakeem Cato will be in tough against that ferocious Eskimos defence but the Alouettes will be up for the challenge at home. I think with Edmonton travelling to Montreal, which is always a tough trip, it’s a straight up pick ’em game.
PICK: Edmonton
Toronto vs. Winnipeg
The Argonauts nearly gave the Roughriders their first win of the season and it’s not like the Riders played extremely good football. The Argos played poor but good teams find a way to win and that’s what the Argos did. The Bombers, meanwhile, go into this game on a short week with their leader Drew Willy again hurt. That’s not a lot of time to get your next QB ready. I’m taking the Argonauts with everything stacked against the Bombers, although at least they have home field advantage to try and get an edge.
PICK: Toronto with 75% confidence
BC vs. Hamilton
If you’re not picking the Tiger-Cats this week, I’d love to know why. They haven’t lost a game at Tim Hortons Field and the Lions have to make that long trip East to play. Andrew Harris will have to have a big day, though the Lions have lost games this season with Harris at the top of his game. The Tiger-Cats look like they are getting stronger as the weeks progress.
PICK: Hamilton with 90% confidence
Ottawa vs. Calgary
The Ottawa REDBLACKS are such a pleasant surprise for the CFL. The talent they brought in is paying off as they travel to Calgary for a rematch from earlier this season when Ottawa put the CFL on notice by beating the Grey Cup Champions in overtime. Calgary had a bye week last week to try and figure some things out. They’ve been inconsistent and I think we’ll see a more consistent team come out of the gate. It wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see an Ottawa win on Saturday but I’m siding with the home team here.
PICK: Calgary with 50% confidence
