Landry: 5 takeaways from Week 5

Good morning, Saskatchewan. I’d just like to remind you that the BC Lions started off oh and five in 2011 and ended up chugging from the Grey Cup in November. So, there’s that.

1) The Ottawa REDBLACKS are no fading flowers. The second year franchise could easily have let things slip away after a two and oh start was erased by two straight losses to Edmonton. The REDBLACKS showed their moxy by coming back to beat the defending champion Calgary Stampeders, in overtime, on a night when they could have gone “el folderoo.” Plagued with what was supposed to be a problem they’d left behind them – a plethora of dropped balls on what should have been easy receptions – the REDBLACKS did not whither. The defence stiffened and the offence kept plugging. Springing receiver Chris Williams for an 84-yard touchdown was key. Williams showed he still has those jets. The sonic boom he created knocked the toque clear off the REDBLACKS’ mascot, Big Joe. If they can ever get Maurice Price going – look out.
