Is Jerome Messam’s production on the ground enough to put the Riders into the win column in Week 3? CFL.ca’s Jamie Nye thinks so as he files his weekly winners and losers.
Last week, Nye had the REDBLACKS in yet another surprise pick and came through on that selection. This week, not feeling so condident in the Burris-led REDBLACKS against a well-rested Eskimos club.
Ottawa at Edmonton
The Ottawa REDBLACKS have been impressive so far this season, especially in their win over the B.C. Lions. Henry Burris was a lot more efficient with the ball than he was in Week 1.
On the Eskimos side of things, they’ve had a full two weeks to get ready for this game after a Week 2 bye. With Mike Reilly out, they turn to Matt Nicholls to try to get a win at home. I think the Eskimos get a lot more inspired effort from their defence after getting chewed up by the Toronto Argonauts in Week 1.
I’m taking the West team at home but Ottawa is going to have a lead or two in this game and not go away quietly.
PICK: Edmonton with 25% confidence
Montreal at Winnipeg
Rakeem Cato will try to put on an encore, however, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers got their pride thumped last week at home by a strong Hamilton team. If Drew Willy wasn’t healthy I’d be tempted to go with the Alouettes in this one, and I hesitate to count them out after they shocked the CFL with a monster win over Calgary in Week 2. The Bombers rebound and show Cato winning in this league isn’t going to come easy.
PICK: Winnipeg with 50% confidence
