Trash Talk: Ticats vs. Bombers

Beginning this week, Ticats.ca will compile a list of comments by players from both teams about the upcoming game.  Here’s what some Tiger-Cats and Blue Bombers had to say about their tilt this Friday…

“They’re a good football team with a veteran quarterback and good defensive players … I think they’re a talented team.”
Paul LaPolice, Blue Bombers head coach, June 29, Winnipeg Free Press

“We do have a hit list for (Avon) Cobourne with the type of plays we want him to be able to run. We do have specific ways we want him to touch the football and we’ll make sure that we hit all those different areas.”
Marcel Bellefeuille, Tiger-Cats head coach, Ticats TV, June 30

“We are going to play a lot of man-to-man, I don’t think that’s a secret, and that changes how the safety plays. You have to be more aggressive and look for runs that break the line of scrimmage as well as deep passes.”
Jason Shivers, Tiger-Cats safety, Hamilton Spectator, June 30

“They’ve got playmakers all over the field. It’s about us. We know it’s about us. We have to focus on what we have to do to do our jobs.”
Brandon Stewart, Blue Bombers defensive back, June 28, Winnipeg Free Press

“I hope they do come after me, because we have guys who can make some plays.”
Buck Pierce, Blue Bombers quarterback, June 30, Winnipeg Free Press

“It all starts up front — we have to stop the running game. They have a good running back, he’s fast, he’s shifty, so we have to make them one dimensional … once we do that then we get after Buck [Pierce] and make his job harder and make things easier for the guys on the back end.”
Jamall Johnson, Tiger-Cats linebacker, ticats.ca, June 30

“They want us to beat ’em up. I’m fine with that. I’m a big corner, and I can run with the best of ’em.”
Brandon Stewart, Winnipeg Sun, June 28

“He’s an explosive guy and he seems to get off the ball quickly … He’s got a vicious spin move from what I hear.”
Brian Simmons, Tiger-Cats offensive lineman, about Bombers DE/LB Odell Willis, Hamilton Spectator, June 30

“You realize if you guys beat us, Im going to pull out footage of you performing in the Nutcracker in Winnipeg and post it on Youtube. And I’m going to repost all of your wife’s marginal columns she used to write about you dancing in spandex in the Free Press on my Facebook wall.”
Doug Brown to Ticats offensive coordinator Khari Jones, Winnipeg Free Press, June 28

“Jealous they said my homie @steviebaggsjr spin move better than mine smh lol its all good I #salute #55”
Odell Willis (@KuntryKane205), Twitter, June 28

“As a coach, you never feel you have enough time to prepare, but I think the players are ready to play.  It’s a new team and a new season and you’re always excited to see what they are capable of doing.”
Marcel Bellefeuille, Hamilton Spectator, June 30

“Imagine me in a room full of middle-aged women getting after it with a sauna suit on, sweating my ass off,”
Albert Smith, Tiger-Cats defensive tackle, describing part of his off-season workout routine to the Hamilton Spectator, June 28

“@Coolcutta26 betsa.. Cuz ima give u ma best and I’m expecting the same if u play”
Avon Cobourne (@AvonCobourne, Twitter, June 29, 9 am

“@AvonCobourne u already kno, that’s all I kno is to do my best homie.
Clint Kent (@Coolcutta26) in response to Avon, Twitter, June 29, 9:15 am

“Let’s get on the plane, let’s go handle our business and let’s come home.
Buck Pierce, CJOB 680, June 28

“He deserves the attention that he gets, especially down in the goal line area because he is more then capable of making plays down there in the end zone. He’s a pro, he prepares, he’s consistent, week in and week out he’s one of the top guys in the league.”
Marcel Bellefeuile talking about Bombers receiver Terrance Edwards, Ticats TV, June 30
