For the second time this off-season, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats showed off their serving skills.
Quick on their feet at Eastgate Square’s Jack Astor’s location, each player shadowed a veteran waitress as they helped seat, serve, and the clear tables of hungry customers. Their customer service skills were without a doubt being put to the test. Dinner plates in one hand, plush toys in the other, the Ticat players worked their charm to raise money for Hamilton’s St. Joseph and McMaster Children’s Hospitals.
Each were designated to a section of the Jack Astor’s dining room, and much like on the football field, their competitive edge emerged. Working hard to out sell each other, the night quickly became a friendly competition between teammates.
“It’s for the children,” Tiger-Cat’s defensive back, Jerome Dennis reminded his teammates. “It’s all about the kids.”
Armed with a smile and a sales pitch, each sale of stuffed teddy bear or huggable giraffe, brought the participating Ticat players closer to achieving their common goal.
Even being complimented on his selling techniques, linebacker Agustin Barrenechea was one of the determined players eager to make the sale.
Thanks to the generosity of the Hamilton community and the many stuffed animal sales made by the Ticat players, both St. Joseph and McMaster Children’s hospitals have been successful in completing long-term goals and numerous projects throughout each hospital.
Being the only pediatric trauma centre in South Central Ontario, McMaster Children’s Hospital development officer, Parker Neale admits that “every little bit helps.”
