TICATS LOCK UP LB JAMALL JOHNSON
Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has signed import linebacker Jamall Johnson to a new contract that will keep him in Hamilton through the 2013 season.
“We’re excited to extend Jamall’s contract. He’s a quick, aggressive player that has proven he is among the league’s elite linebackers,” said General Manager Bob O’Billovich. “With this signing, along with last week’s addition of Renauld Williams and the recent extension of Markeith Knowlton’s contract, the Ticats will have an excellent linebacking corps for the foreseeable future.”
Johnson, a 6-1, 222-pound native of Norco, Louisiana, has been the Ticats leading tackler over the past two seasons, recording an incredible 209 defensive tackles in 35 games. Since signing with the Black and Gold on July 4, 2009, Johnson has also made 19 special teams tackles, seven quarterbacks sacks, five forced fumbles and five tackles for a loss. He was named an East Division and CFL All-Star in 2009.
Before signing with the Ticats, Johnson previously spent four seasons (2005-08) with the B.C. Lions. In 77 career games, Johnson has registered 275 defensive tackles, 75 special teams tackles and 14 quarterback sacks. Johnson has also suited up with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2009 and Cleveland Browns in 2005.
