Three Former Ticats Heading To Canadian Football Hall Of Fame

THREE FORMER TICATS IN CANADIAN FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME 2011 INDUCTION CLASS

Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats would like to congratulate three former players for being among the Canadian Football Hall of Fame’s 2011 induction class, including Danny McManus, Joe Montford and Terry Vaughn.

McManus re-wrote the Ticats record book during his eight seasons (1998-2005) in Hamilton, setting new team benchmarks in career passing yards (33,841), career touchdown passes (164), career pass completions (2,368), career pass attempts (4,257) and single season passing yards (5,334). In 1999, ‘Danny Mac’ enjoyed his finest season in Black and Gold, earning the CFL Most Outstanding Player award, a spot on both the CFL and East Division All-Star teams and was named Most Valuable Player in the team’s 1999 Grey Cup victory.

At the time of his retirement, McManus finished his with 53,225 passing yards — currently the third-highest total in CFL history.  He also finished his career with the sixth-most regular season games played (298) in addition to 18 playoff games and six Grey Cup finals. He won three Grey Cup titles with three separate teams in 1990 (Winnipeg), 1994 (B.C.) and 1999 (Hamilton).

McManus currently serves as the Ticats Southeastern Regional Scout.

Montford spent eight of his 12 seasons in Hamilton (1996-2001,03-04), establishing himself as a fan favourite and one of the most feared defensive players of his era.  He’s one of only four players to earn the CFL’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player award three times and was named a CFL and East Division All-Star five times.

Montford finished his career with 540 defensive tackles, 135 quarterback sacks and 51 tackles for a loss.  He currently sits second all-time in the Ticats record book in three categories: defensive tackles (422), sacks (115) and fumble recoveries (18).  Montford also suited up with the Shreveport Pirates, Toronto Argonauts and Edmonton Eskimos and captured Grey Cup rings with the Ticats in 1999 and Eskimos in 2003.

Vaughn capped off his prolific 12-year CFL career with the Ticats in 2006.  In 212 games with the Ticats, Calgary Stampeders, Edmonton Eskimos and Montreal Alouettes, Vaughn caught 1,006 pases for 13,746 yards and 74 touchdowns.  He was an eight-time West Division All-Star and three-time CFL All-Star over the course of his career, which saw him earn two Grey Cup rings.

Also slated for induction are Chris Flynn (player), Gino Fracas (builder), Ken Lehmann (player) and Don Matthews (builder).

This year’s induction weekend will be hosted by Calgary Stampeders on September 14-18. The new inductees will bring the total Hall of Fame members to 251 members already included in the Hall’s Zone of Champions, which features busts of each member of the Hall.  The Canadian Football Hall of Fame and Museum operates as a non-profit registered charity.  Located in Hamilton, Ontario since 1963, and in its current location next to Hamilton City Hall since 1972, the Hall is home to more than 30,000 Canadian football artifacts, ranging from equipment and trophies to photos and videos.
