BOB YOUNG STATEMENT

Hamilton, Ontario – Hamilton Tiger-Cats caretaker Bob Young issued the following statement today:

“Today’s announcement is very positive news for the Pan Am Games and the legacy of amateur sports.  The Games will create a significant number of jobs and be a source of pride not only for our community but for the entire province.

We would like to thank all those who have shown tremendous leadership in moving this project forward, especially Hamilton City Council and Mayor Bob Bratina, as well as the provincial government, particularly MPP Sophia Aggelonitis, MPP Ted McMeekin and Premier Dalton McGuinty.

They have demonstrated a strong belief in the power of sport to build and strengthen communities, and the perseverance needed to make positive things happen. We would also like to thank the federal government for their unwavering commitment to contributing to the project, and the organizers of Toronto 2015 for their guidance and forbearance.

We look forward to working with all parties to transform the plan into a facility that will make us all proud, and will serve generations of Hamiltonians.

This process has been spirited and at times very challenging, but while there has seldom been unanimity on what should be done, everyone involved has shared a passion for our community and making it better.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats look forward to beginning a new tradition in our historic location.”
