TIGER-CATS MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER AWARD NOMINEES ANNOUNCED
Hamilton, Ontario – The Canadian Football League has unveiled the nominees for the 2010 CFL Most Outstanding Player Awards. The following Hamilton Tiger-Cats were nominated for awards in six different categories:
KEVIN GLENN / Quarterback
Most Outstanding Player
In his second season in Black and Gold, Glenn has completed 370 of 565 pass attempts (65.5%) for 4,817 yards and 30 touchdowns while rushing for an additional 153 yards. Glenn has already set new team records for completions and touchdown passes in a season. The 10-year veteran has been named the CFL’s Offensive Player of the Week three times in 2010.
MARKEITH KNOWLTON / Linebacker
Most Outstanding Defensive Player
Knowlton has been the key to the Tiger-Cats defence, which has allowed a league-low 427 points against this season. The third-year Ticat has made 68 defensive tackles, four forced fumbles, three quarterback sacks, three interceptions, two blocked kicks and has tied a team record with six fumble recoveries. This is Knowlton’s second straight Most Outstanding Defensive Player nomination.
DAVE STALA / Receiver
Most Outstanding Canadian
Stala leads all East Division Canadian receivers with 82 receptions for 987 receiving yards and five touchdowns this season. In his second season with the Ticats, the St. Mary’s product has established himself as one of the league’s most dependable receivers with a reputation for making clutch catches. Stala has been named the CFL’s Canadian Player of the Week three times in 2010.
MARWAN HAGE / Centre
Most Outstanding Lineman
With Hage controlling leading the way, the Ticats offensive line has surrendered the fewest amount of sacks (26) among all CFL teams this season and has paved the way for DeAndra’ Cobb to rush for his second consecutive 1,000-yard season. This is the fourth consecutive season in which Hage has been the Ticats Most Outstanding Lineman nominee.
MARCUS THIGPEN / Running Back and Kick Returner
Most Outstanding Rookie and Most Outstanding Special Teams Player
Thigpen made CFL history just seven games into his CFL career earlier this year when he became the first player in league history to score five different ways in one season (rush, reception, kickoff return, punt return, missed field goal return).
The Indiana product has been a versatile weapon for the Ticats this season as he has carried the ball 25 times for 203 yards and two touchdowns, caught 20 passes for 234 yards and one touchdown, returned 38 kickoffs for 751 yards (19.8 avg) and one touchdown, returned 57 punts for 514 yards (9.0 avg) and one touchdown and ran back seven missed field goals for 384 yards (54.9 avg) and two touchdowns.
