Ticats Bounce Back In Big Way

Revenge is a dish best served Green and Gold.

While the Ticats offence put up another 36 points on the Edmonton Eskimos it was the defence that came out with the kind of effort that wins football games.

The Ticats “D” held the Eskimos to just 11 points and smothered the Eskimos passing attack, holding Ricky Ray to only 196 yards through the air just five days after allowing him a total of 386.

“It was big for us to bounce back tonight and everybody on the defence knew that,” said Ticats defensive back Geoff Tisdale.

“We played as a family tonight and we went after him (Ricky Ray), we went after him non-stop,” he said.

Even though the Ticats only registered two sacks, Ricky Ray will surely sympathize with his team’s tackling dummies after being battered by a relentless Ticat pass-rush all night.

Gone was the time to find his third and fourth option, as he repeatedly took shots after just getting the ball away.

“More important than our number of sacks is the pressure that we apply,” said defensive end Justin Hickman.  “Getting in his face and making him move his feet is just as beneficial and I think we did a great job of that tonight.”

Kevin Glenn ensured that his name would be entered into the annals of Ticats history as he passed for 339 yards and became just the fourth quarterback in Tiger-Cats history to pass for over 4,000 yards in a season.

“It feels good to get that but the biggest thing was getting a win and it’s nice to know that we’re still in control of our destiny,” said Glenn.

Helping Glenn rack up the yardage was another stellar performance by Arland Bruce III, who gained another 142 yards and now sits at 1,237 yards for the season.  With another four games on the schedule, Bruce is poised to break his career-high of 1,370 yards that he set in 2006.

“I’m not really a stat guy, as long as we win I’d rather have W’s and championships under my belt,” said Bruce.  “If I’m having success it’s because of the quarterback and the coaches putting me in that position.”

The win couldn’t come at a better time, with a pivotal game against Toronto coming next week that could salt away a second-straight home playoff game and second place in the East.
