THE MATCH-UP

Tonight’s game will be the second of two regular season meetings between the Tiger-Cats and Eskimos in the 2010 season. The Eskimos defeated the Ticats on Sunday, 37-35, at Commonwealth Stadium. The match-up will be the 79th meeting between the two teams since 1950. Edmonton holds the edge in the all-time series, 50-27-1. The Ticats have won six of the last 10 games at Ivor Wynne Stadium played between the two teams and five out of the last six. In the last 10 meetings overall between the two teams, the Tiger-Cats and Eskimos have each won five times. With a two point margin of victory last week, the average margin of victory in the last nine games played between the two teams is 3.6 points. In those last nine games, five of them have been decided by two points or less. The largest margin of victory in the nine games is seven points, when the Ticats defeated the Eskimos, 28-21, at Ivor Wynne Stadium in 2009.

This will be the fourth meeting between head coaches Marcel Bellefeuille and Richie Hall. Bellefeuille has a career record of 16-23 as a CFL head coach in the regular season and holds a 1-2 record against the Eskimos. Hall has a career record of 13-18 as a CFL head coach in the regular season and holds a 2-1 record against the Ticats.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Kevin Glenn / QB / Hamilton
Glenn has played well against the Eskimos in the past and should continue to do so tonight. In nine previous starts against the Eskimos since 2004, Glenn has completed 63% of his passes and has averaged over 335 passing yards per game. Last week, Glenn completed 70% of his passes but also had an interception returned for a touchdown. If Glenn can keep his completion percentage up and keep turnovers to a minimum, the Tiger-Cats offence should have another big game.

Marquay McDaniel / WR / Hamilton

McDaniel had his best game of his 2010 season last week in Edmonton as he made nine catches for 122 yards and two touchdowns. Eskimos defensive back Chris Thompson eliminated Arland Bruce’s threat most of the game and Dave Stala left the game in the second quarter with an injury, leaving McDaniel as one of Glenn’s main targets for the rest of the game. McDaniel has also been a reliable target on second down, coming up with some big catches to extend drives. Look for McDaniel to be on Glenn’s radar again tonight and he could have another 100 yard game.

Rod Davis / LB / Edmonton
Davis had a game changing play last weekend, intercepting a Kevin Glenn pass and returning it for a touchdown to tie the game at 21-21. It seemed that momentum had changed at that point in the game and it was the second week in a row Davis had returned an interception for a touchdown for the Eskimos. Davis also recorded a team-high seven tackles last week for the Eskimos. Look for Davis to be in the thick of things on defence, trying to shut down Glenn and the Ticats offence.

Fred Stamps / WR / Edmonton
Stamps had a breakout game last week for the Eskimos, recording 10 catches for 181 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown was Stamps’ first since July 11th and he also gained more receiving yards last week than he had in the previous two games combined. The Ticats will need to figure out a way to contain Stamps as it’s almost certain that Ricky Ray will be looking Stamps’ way all game long.

KEY MATCH-UP

Tiger-Cats Secondary vs. Eskimos Passing Game
The key match-up in tonight’s game will be the Ticats secondary against the Eskimos passing game. One of the deciding factors in last week’s game was the ability for Edmonton’s offence and quarterback Ray to execute big passing plays to extend drives that ultimately led to points. The Tiger-Cats will be looking to key on Stamps who accounted for a large chunk of the yardage the Eskimos gained through the air. If the Tiger-Cats secondary can contain the Eskimos offence in the passing game, we could see the Eskimos punting a lot more than they did on Sunday.
