STALA SIGNS EXTENSION WITH TIGER-CATS

Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that non-import wide receiver Dave Stala has signed a new contract with the team that will keep the Hamilton native in Black and Gold through the 2012 season.

“Since signing with us, Dave has been a reliable performer on the field and a key part of our offence.  He’s been an excellent veteran presence in our locker room and a great representative of the team in our community as well.  We look forward to seeing Dave continue to contribute both on and off of the field in the future,” said General Manager Bob O’Billovich.

Stala has caught 61 passes for 753 yards with the Ticats this season, placing him third among all CFL receivers in receptions and 11th in yardage.  He set a new career-high with 128 receiving yards against the Saskatchewan Roughriders last weekend.

The Saint Mary’s product began his career with the Montreal Alouettes in 2003 after being selected in the sixth round (50th overall) of the CFL Canadian Draft.  Stala spent six seasons with the Alouettes before signing with the Ticats on April 30, 2009.  In 2009, he hauled in 67 passes for 751 yards and two scores.

In 88 career regular season games, Stala has recorded 273 receptions for 3,356 yards and 12 touchdowns.

This year, he established Stala’s Stars, a community initiative that allows underprivileged youth from YMCA programs to attend Ticats home games at Ivor Wynne Stadium.
