On Sunday September 26, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats continued their series of coaching clinics by holding their Woodstock Minor Football Camp. 45 kids turned out on Sunday to go through drills and receive instruction from some of their on field heroes.
Dylan Barker, Demonte’ Bolden, DeAndra’ Cobb, Jerome Dennis, Jason Jimenez and Quinton Porter all took part in teaching campers how to throw, run, block and tackle.
“I went to tons of football camps as a kid and I always loved having the opportunity to learn and spend some time with the players running them,” said Ticats safety Dylan Barker.
“So getting the chance to be around these kids and teach them some things is amazing,” he added.
One of the most positive aspects of camps like this is the impact that the kids have on the players, not just the other way around.
“It’s great because being around these guys really reminds you why you love the game so much,” said Ticats quarterback Quinton Porter.
This is the third camp that the Ticats have put on in partnership with minor football programs in the community.
“We always love having an opportunity to help develop football at the grassroots level,” said Director of Community Relations and Communications, Shawn Burke.
“Our players love having the chance to interact and teach some young football players, and hopefully the Ticats will be able to help run even more of these camps in the future,” he said.
