STEVIE BAGGS SIGNS IN TIGERTOWN
Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has signed 2009 West Division All-Star Stevie Baggs.
Baggs, a 6-2, 240-pound defensive end was named a West Division All-Star in 2009 after leading the league with 12 quarterback sacks. He also added 55 defensive tackles, five special teams tackles, four forced fumbles, four tackles for a loss and one interception while helping the Roughriders reach the Grey Cup final.
General Manager Bob O’Billovich commented, “Stevie is a quick, high-energy player who will help create havoc for the opposition when teamed up with the defensive players we currently have on the roster. He’s also a great character guy who will be a welcomed addition in our locker room and the community. ”
Baggs has recorded 80 defensive tackles, eight tackles for losses and 16 quarterback sacks in four previous CFL seasons with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2006-07), Edmonton Eskimos (2007) and Saskatchewan Roughriders (2008-09).
The Bethune-Cookman product attended training camp with the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals earlier this year after signing as a free agent on February 4. He has also spent time with the NFL’s Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars, NFL Europe’s Frankfurt Galaxy and the Arena Football League’s Orlando Predators.
The Ticats also announced that import defensive end Khari Long has been released.
