In Hamilton’s adaptation of Friday the 13th, it was Kevin Glenn playing the role of Jason, slicing and dicing the Winnipeg secondary like they were Crystal Lake campers on his way to a 274-yard and three-touchdown performance.

The Ticat offence announced their presence early, scoring two quick touchdowns and jumping out to a 14-0 lead thanks to 50 and 55-yard receptions by Maurice Mann and Arland Bruce III respectively and scored an impressive 32 points in the first half.

Even though the Bombers made it more interesting towards the end, the result was never really in doubt thanks to more of the usual from Kevin Glenn and constant pressure from the Hamilton front seven.

The defence sacked Buck Pierce and Steven Jyles a combined four times and kept the heat on them all game, ending up with three takeaways.  With Demonte’ Bolden out of the lineup, rookie defensive tackle Albert Smith got the call and answered by delivering a sack on the first play of his CFL career.  Canadian Matt Kirk contributed with two sacks and Markeith Knowlton added one of his own in what was a dominant performance for a defence that just seems to be getting better, despite key injuries to starters.

DeAndra’ Cobb picked a good time to have one of his best performances of the season, finishing the game with 86 yards on the ground.  His numbers were even more impressive when you consider he really didn’t get started until the second half and was stopped for a loss on five of his first six carries in the first half.

Cobb came through when the team needed him the most, finishing out the game by repeatedly making it past the first down marker and keeping the clock running and becoming the key piece of a nine play, 95-yard drive that set up his own two-yard touchdown plunge.  If Cobb is starting to come around it will provide some much needed balance to what is already one of the most dangerous passing attacks in the league.

The win comes with some added importance one not only because it came against a divisional opponent but because it clinched the season series for the Black and Gold, who hold a 3-1 edge over the Bombers.

The Ticats will now face the Argos next Friday in the third of five straight divisional matchups that ends with a game against the division-leading Alouettes on Saturday September 11 at Ivor Wynne Stadium. That contest will mark the first meeting between the Ticats and Argos this season and is one of the most meaningful games, standings-wise, between the two rivals in recent memory.
