Getting To Know… Marcus Thigpen

Find out a little more about rookie running back/kick returner Marcus Thigpen

Q:Do you have any pre-game rituals that you follow?

A:  When we have later game I like to sit in the room before and watch cartoons.  I like to watch cartoons, just to ease my mind and keep me relaxed.

Q: What is your favourite personal football memory?

A:  It was my homecoming in high school and we were down with maybe 5 seconds left.  They threw a bomb to me and I caught it between two defenders and after I scored, my mom fell down the bleachers and my wife now, who was a cheerleader at the time, tried to d a backwards flip and slipped because it was raining.

Q: Who is an athlete you admired growing up?

A:  Barry Sanders.  He was the one I watched the most because I was small growing up and he was a small guy, so I wanted to resemble him.

Q: What surprised you the most when you got to the CFL?

A:  There were a few things really.  The three downs, the twelfth man, but the size of the endzone was probably the most surprising, it’s huge.

Q:  If you weren’t playing football where would you be?

A:  If I wasn’t playing football I’d probably be working at a group home, working with kids.  I want to help kids become young men and teach them life skills.  Something that I didn’t have when I was growing up with my household, so I want to teach them.

Q:  If you could try another position on the field what would it be?

A:  Probably a safety.  I think I could be a pretty good safety on defence.  I can cover sideline to sideline pretty quickly and I’ve got some make-up speed, so I think safety would be good.

Q:  Do you have a favourite pre-game meal?

A:  No I just kind of roll with the punches and eat whatever.

Q:  Whats getting the most play in your ipod or car right now?

A:  Gospel music, I love gospel.

Q:  Do you have any game day superstitions?

A:  No, I don’t.  Nothing.
