After receiving thousands of supportive letters and calls from fans, alumni, fan clubs, the TigerTown Council and the broader business community, the Hamilton Tiger-Cats have launched a comprehensive website to provide fans and area residents reliable information and a platform to support the East Mountain stadium site. The website can be accessed at goeastmountain.com.
“This debate has been characterized by a great deal of misinformation,” said Tiger-Cats President, Scott Mitchell. “We share the views of the Government of Ontario, the Government of Canada and the Pan Am Host Corporation that the future stadium must serve as an economically viable legacy for the Pan Am Games. We cannot achieve those criteria at the West Habour.”
Mitchell stressed the need to “move forward with a stadium that provides our fans, partners and season seat holders with a world class stadium experience. We can only achieve this with simple access both locally and regionally, locating the stadium with a great visual awareness and visibility, ease of public transportation and parking. We need optimal seating and sightlines for our fans for a variety of sports and entertainment events. The East Mountain site achieves these vital objectives.”
Michael Fenn, the facilitator chosen by both the Tiger-Cats and the City of Hamilton concluded that the Tiger-Cats need to be a “regional” team, operating out of a facility that is also regional in nature. Mr. Fenn, after two months of consultation with both the Tiger-Cats and the City of Hamilton, provided the option of building the stadium on lands on the East Mountain at the Linc and the Red Hill Expressway that is within Hamilton’s urban boundary. This property is owned by the Government of Ontario and is suitable to the Pan Am Games Hostco.
“Tiger-Cats owner Bob Young has agreed to this compromise site,” confirmed Mitchell. “We are hoping for a timely conclusion to this debate to ensure that Hamilton obtains its share of the provincial and federal funding.”
