With the Calgary Stampeders in town, the Ticats were hoping to bounce back from a loss last week in Winnipeg.

While the team showed improvement, the game ended in heartbreak for the Ticats and 25,248 fans that turned out to watch on Saturday afternoon, with Hamilton falling just short, 23-22.

“Our protection of Kevin was a huge improvement but it’s tough to see positives like that when you don’t have those two points at the end,” said offensive lineman Alex Gauthier.

Kevin Glenn picked apart the Calgary secondary but was only able to account for a single touchdown and the team was unable to get running back DeAndra’ Cobb going.  Cobb finished with 13 carries for 37 yards.

“Total yardage is so important, but you need to be balanced because when you play teams with great pass rushers, you need to be able to put the brakes on them,” said Gauthier.

“If you’re able to run the ball then that helps long term but we need to tighten that up, this game and last week, that wasn’t enough,” he added.

The game wasn’t without bright spots, as rookie Marcus Thigpen scored two more touchdowns, Arland Bruce III put up his first 100+ receiving yard game of the year and sophomore receiver Marquay McDaniel added to his impressive totals with six receptions for 86 yards.

“I just try to make plays and whenever the ball comes my way, I try to keep the offence moving,” said McDaniel.

“When the ball doesn’t come to me I’m trying to open up a route for one of the other receivers, that’s how we are,” he added.

McDaniel now leads the team in receiving with 13 receptions for 194 yards.

The Tiger-Cats will look to make their first mark in the win column next week when they host the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in a re-match from Week 1.
