Partners Draft Their Own Ticats

Last Thursday, the 5th annual Draft a Ticat night took place at Carmen’s Banquet Centre. 20 Tiger-Cats partners had the opportunity to draft a player to represent their company for the 2010 season. This unique opportunity for the partner allows them to have two player appearances during the season as well as their logo on the player’s roster page on Ticats.ca and on the videoboard during home games.

The arrangement works well for both sides involved.

“I think it’s a great idea, it’s a great opportunity for corporations to join up with the players and really get to know who’s representing the community,” said Greg Walker, General Manager of the Budget Car and Truck Rental location on 237 Main Street East.

Budget Car and Truck Rental had the eighth pick in the draft and used it to select linebacker Jamall Johnson, who was very happy with the selection.

“Budget is a great company, I’ve rented cars from them before,” he said.

“This is my second year here and I think part of the reason they drafted me is because they’ve seen my face in the office a few times,” said Johnson. “They do a great job there,” he added.

Quarterback Kevin Glenn was selected first overall by Spotless Dry Cleaners and stressed the importance of the event and corporate partnerships.

“The most important thing is to get out and mingle with the sponsors, get to know them, because it’s like a give and take thing,” he said.

“We’re doing stuff for them and they’re going to do stuff for us,” Glenn said.
