If you stopped by your local Tim Hortons today, you may have noticed some familiar faces serving up coffee and donuts.
That’s because June 2nd is Tim Hortons Camp Day, where for one day store owners across Canada donate the proceeds from every coffee sale to the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation to help send kids to camp.
Locations in the Hamilton-area had players from the Tiger-Cats as special guests throughout the morning, with 14 players, along with six cheerleaders visiting 16 locations and helping encourage customers to come in and support Camp Day.
“Camp Day is a terrific program,” said Jim Edmands, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Tiger-Cats.
“We are very pleased to be able to support our partner Tim Hortons to raise funds for such a worthy cause.”
Employees and owners alike were thrilled to be able to work side by side with Ticats players to promote a worthy cause.
“It really helps to have these guys around,” said Aron Burch, franchise owner of the Meadowlands location in Ancaster, who had quarterbacks Kevin Glenn and Adam Tafralis helping out.
“The store is packed, the vibe is good and that means that we’re going to be able to raise more money, and that’s what it comes down to is raising more money for the foundation,” said Burch.
Being a franchise owner himself back in Detroit gives Kevin Glenn the upper hand when it comes to making plays behind the counter.
“Kevin’s got some experience so he should know his way around there but we’ll have to work on Adam,” joked Burch.
Earlier in the morning, Glenn and Tafralis were at the location on Kenilworth, which is owned by former Ticat player and Team President David Sauve.
“I hope more people want to come by with these guys here because it’s not just the proceeds, it’s the total that people pay for coffee and tea,” said Sauve.
“Some charities, it’s just what’s left over but it’s the total spent that we give to charity so we have a great opportunity to make a difference.”
Last year, Camp Day raised $9.4 million and organizers are looking to exceed those numbers this time around.
“Our goal is to try and get to $10 million this year in one day, which is huge, so all the help we can get the better,” said Burch.
