The 2010 Chinese Zodiac forecast for the Wayang Times:

Being the Tiger’s own year, 2010 holds great promise for those born under this sign, with exciting developments happening for them both personally and professionally. Some Tigers may be feeling disappointed and disheartened after 2009 and it will be important to leave the past behind and concentrate on the future, which is looking so bright!

It’s almost as if the writer at the Wayang Times shared in our collective pain as the Ticats 2009 season and hopeful drive to the Grey Cup was ended in by the B.C. Lions in a thrilling overtime finish last November.

Fear not, Ticat faithful. If history is any indication, 2010 may be a memorable season for the Black and Gold.

In the Chinese calendar, the year of the tiger occurs every twelve years with 2010 being the latest installment. Here’s a look at other seasons that fell under the watchful eye of the tiger.

1950 – The Ticats finished with a 7-5 record, earning first place in the East Division but eventually fell to Toronto in the post-season under the old aggregate scoring system.

1962 – Hamilton dominated the competition and ended the regular season with a 9-4-1 record before losing in the Grey Cup by a single point.

1974 – The Tabbies made the playoffs once again, but end up losing in the East-Semi Final to Ottawa.

1986 – Hamilton battled their way to a 9-8-1 record before beating the Argos in the Eastern Semi-Final and smashing the heavily-favoured Edmonton Eskimos 39-15 to win the Grey Cup.

1998 – The Ticats tore up the league, finishing with a 12-5-1 record. They followed an impressive regular season with a victory over Montreal in the East Final, before falling to Calgary in the Grey Cup.

2010?

As you can see, the Ticats have been able to translate astrological circumstance into on-field success. Hopefully this season the stars will align to bring a sixteenth Grey Cup to Hamilton. It’s our time.
