Bob Young To Run For Mayor of Hamilton

BOB YOUNG TO RUN FOR MAYOR OF HAMILTON

Hamilton, ON – Hamilton Tiger-Cats owner Bob Young announced today that he intends run for Mayor of Hamilton city council in the upcoming November 2010 election.

Young initiated his campaign today, the first day of April, and will run under the slogan, “Redeveloping Hamilton, 110 Yards at a Time.”  Young’s redevelopment of Hamilton began in 2007 when he relocated the Ticats business office to its new downtown location at 1 Jarvis Street.

If elected, Young pledges to donate his salary to the West Harbour remediation project, to significantly lower the taxes of all Ticats season seat holders and to erect a 20-foot statue of Bob O’Billovich in front of City Hall.

The following quotes have been issued by Young:

  • On whether he is only running for Mayor to ensure the Pan Am stadium is built in a location of his preference:  “Well duh.  The Pan Am Stadium is the only reason I would divert any time or effort away from bringing the Grey Cup back to Hamilton as soon as possible.”
  • On where he would prefer the stadium built:  “Have you not been paying attention for the last year or so?  We have been very clear where we prefer the PanAm stadium to be built — in Hamilton!”
  • On establishing rapid transit, fixing sewer systems, encouraging economic development, developing effective social programs, managing the city budget, etc: “… I don’t have a clue.  Fortunately, Hamilton is blessed with a plethora of talented politicians who are better qualified than I am at making the buses run on time.”
