Tiger-Cats Lock Up Knowlton

TIGER-CATS LOCK UP KNOWLTON

Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has signed import linebacker Markeith Knowlton to a contract extension that will keep the CFL All-Star in Hamilton through the 2012 season.

“We’re very excited to have Markeith signed for the foreseeable future.  He’s a consistent contributor on the field, a respected teammate in the locker room, and a valuable member of this community,” said Head Coach Marcel Bellefeuille.

THE KNOWLTON FILE

In two seasons as a Tiger-Cat:

189 defensive tackles
8 interceptions
8 forced fumbles
7 tackles for losses
3 quarterback sacks

East Division All-Star: 2008 and 2009 CFL All-Star: 2009

Knowlton, a 6-0, 205-pound native of Elaine, Arkansas finished the 2009 season with 94 defensive tackles, four forced fumbles, four fumble recoveries, four interceptions, two blocked kicks and two touchdowns.  In recognition of his extraordinary season, Knowlton was named the Ticats Most Outstanding Defensive Player as well as both an East Division and CFL All-Star.  

The North Texas product spent the first two seasons of his CFL career with the B.C. Lions before arriving in Hamilton via trade on April 30, 2008.  In 68 career regular season games, Knowlton has accumulated 239 defensive tackles and nine interceptions.  He captured a Grey Cup championship with B.C. in 2006.
