A War Amps public service announcement featuring members of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats has won a Gold Award at the 2010 International Mercury Awards in New York City.
Jarod and the Ticats, which debuted on TSN and other Canadian networks and specialty channels last Fall, shows seven-year-old Jarod Murray of Vanessa, Ontario, and three members of the Ticats 2009 offensive line (Marwan Hage, Alexandre Gauthier and Dan Goodspeed) passing on The War Amps PLAYSAFE message.
Jarod was enrolled in The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program after losing part of his right leg in a lawnmower accident. He now uses his experience to pass on the PLAYSAFE message to other children.
For more than 30 years, The War Amps and CFL have shared a special tradition – the annual CFL PLAYSAFE PSA, saluting the League’s support of The War Amps safety program. Like all War Amps productions, the PSA is funded by corporate sponsors.
As a Gold Award winner, the PSA is now eligible for the competition’s overall Grand Award, which will be announced later in March. The 2010 International Mercury Awards, which honour excellence in professional communication, were chosen from nearly 1,000 entries from more than 20 countries.
