Hage Honoured With Tom Pate Award

HAGE HONOURED WITH TOM PATE AWARD

Hamilton, Ontario
– The Hamilton Tiger-Cats would like to congratulate offensive lineman Marwan Hage for being honoured with the 2009 Tom Pate Memorial Award earlier tonight at the CFL Players Awards in Calgary.

Each year, the CFLPA invites each team to nominate a team member for this award. The recipient should embody the qualities that distinguished Tom Pate; qualities that recognize a player with outstanding sportsmanship, a player who has made a contribution to his team as well as to his community and to his Association.

In his sixth CFL season, Hage continued to make significant contributions to the Hamilton community with his Hage’s Heroes community initiative.  Hage’s endeavors saw him host food drives in Hamilton and Montreal that fed over 2,300 families, welcome 1,000 underprivileged youth from City Kidz to the team’s July 18 game and make various donations to Hamilton charities.

The Ticats 2009 Most Outstanding Lineman also brought 40 local youths to each home game this season.  Hage would meet with the kids before the game, provide them with a meal and a Hage’s Heroes t-shirt and encourage them to cheer on the Black and Gold.

Hage is the first Tiger-Cats player to receive the Tom Pate Award since Danny McManus in 2005.
