Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has signed five import players to practice roster agreements. Defensive back Lewis Baker, wide receiver Shawn Bayes, defensive back Tony Davis, defensive lineman Josh Gaines and defensive end Marquies Gunn will join the Ticats on the field today.
Baker, a 6-3, 203-pound native of Carrollton, Texas, was released by the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers earlier this year. Baker spent four years at Oklahoma, recording 80 tackles, two tackles for a loss and one fumble recovery in 50 games.
Bayes, a 5-10, 181-pound native of Memphis, Tennessee, attended training camp with the NFL’s Oakland Raiders last month after playing four seasons at Kent State. While at Kent State, Bayes caught 74 receptions for 1,133 yards and eight touchdowns, and also averaged 21.3 yards per kickoff return.
Davis, a 5-10, 195-pound native of Warren, Ohio was released by the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals earlier this year after a four-year collegiate career at Penn State. Davis racked up 122 tackles and three interceptions as a Nittany Lion.
Gaines, a 6-1, 274-pound native of Fort Wayne, Indiana attended training camp with the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles last month. Gaines played four seasons at Penn State, earning All-Big Ten honourable mentions in 2007 and 2008.
Gunn, a 6-4, 264-pound native of Alexander City, Alabama has spent time with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Giants. Gunn played four seasons at Auburn, recording 96 tackles and 12 quarterback sacks. He was named All-SEC Second-Team in 2005.
The Ticats also announced that the team has released import wide receiver Brandon Middleton.
