TIGER-CATS ACQUIRE ALL-STAR WR ARLAND BRUCE III
Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has acquired import wide receiver Arland Bruce III from the Toronto Argonauts in exchange for the rights to non-import defensive lineman Corey Mace, the Ticats third round draft pick in the 2010 CFL Canadian Draft and a conditional draft pick in the 2011 Draft.
“We’re thrilled to add an exceptionally talented player like Arland Bruce III to our roster,” said general manager Bob O’Billovich. “He’s a proven veteran who will fit in well with our young receiving corps.”
O’Billovich continued, “We are certain that in the environment (head coach) Marcel Bellefeuille has created around our team this season, Arland will be a respected teammate in our locker room and a valuable member of our community.”
Bruce, a 5-11, 197-pound native of Olathe, Kansas has been named an East Division All-Star three times (2005, 2006, 2008) and a CFL All-Star once (2006) over the course of his eight-year career. In 112 career games, Bruce has caught 442 passes for 6,932 receiving yards and 59 touchdowns.
The Minnesota product has also returned 97 punts for 1,344 yards and two touchdowns as well as 97 kickoffs for 2,035 yards. He began his career with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2001 before signing with the NFL’s San Francisco 49ers in 2003. He joined the Argonauts as a free agent in 2004 and helped the team win a Grey Cup championship later that year.
Last season, Bruce was named an East Division All-Star after recording 92 receptions for 1,210 yards.
