Ticats Rookies Football Camp

Hamilton, Ontario – Last week the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Rookies Football Camp wrapped up the first of two football camps this summer developed for boys and girls aged 6-14 as an introduction to Canadian football.

The first installment of this year’s Ticats Rookies Football Camp ran from July 13th to July 17th and took place at Brian Timmis Field. The July camp featured 23 Hamilton and Burlington youth participating in non-equipment and non-contact individual football drills as well as various other activities.

Football camp participants learned the skill sets of various positions including quarterback, running back, receiver, defensive back and linebacker. The campers were also introduced to various footwork, ball handling and throwing drills. Aside from football related activities, the participants had an opportunity to take part in typical day camp activities and games, make new friends, enjoy the outdoors and learn from the CFL’s best.

The July camp featured appearances by the following Tiger-Cat players:

Kicker / Punter – Nick Setta
Offensive Linemen – Alexander Gauthier, Dan Goodspeed
Defensive Linemen – Matt Kirk
Receivers – Prechae Rodriguez, Chris Davis
Free Safety – Dylan Barker
Linebackers – Ray Mariuz, Agustin Barrenechea
Quarterback – Adam Tafralis
Defensive Back – Jykine Bradley

For many youngsters this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet, mingle and learn from Ticats players and coaching staff. Other highlights of the Ticats Rookie Football Camp included a tour of Ivor Wynne Stadium and a chance to play a game of touch football on the Ticats field.

Stay tuned as the second Ticats Rookies Football Camp gets underway in August, during the week of the 10th to 14th. The camp runs for five days from 9 am to 4 pm and the cost is only $225.00 per person. The Tiger-Cats organization is seeking to increase their numbers for the August camp and spots are filling up quickly.
