HENLEY NOMINATED AS TIGER-CATS MOST OUTSTANDING PLAYER OF THE ‘60s
Hamilton, Ontario – The Canadian Football League announced today that former defensive back and wide receiver Garney Henley has been named the Tiger-Cats Most Outstanding Player of the Sixties.
During the sixties, Henley was an All-Canadian and All-Eastern all-star seven times, appeared in six Grey Cup games and was a key part of three Grey Cup Championships.
Over the course of his remarkable 16-year career, Henley was named an All-Canadian and All-Eastern all-star ten times, appeared in seven Grey Cup games and captured four Grey Cup championships. He earned the CFL’s Most Outstanding Player award in 1972, was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1979 and is featured on the Ticats Wall of Honour at Ivor Wynne Stadium.
Earlier this season, Canadians were asked to help honour legendary CFL players by voting for the Most Outstanding Player of the Sixties. The Ticats and Blue Bombers nominees were announced during today’s game broadcast on TSN.
Voting on CFL.ca for the Sixties M.O.P. will reopen on Sunday, July 19 when fans will then have the opportunity to pick one legend from the East and one from the West in a divisional vote, with the two winners to be announced during the week of August 10th.
Finally, fans will be able to vote for the Most Outstanding Player of the Sixties from August 15th to September 8th, with the winner to be announced on September 11th, at the Retro Game between the Ticats and Toronto Argonauts in Toronto.
