Ticats Support McHappy Day

By: Erin Sue

Hamilton, Ontario –  Players and Stripes hit up local McDonalds locations in Hamilton to show their support for McHappy Day on May 6th.

McHappy Day at McDonalds is a program that donates a dollar from every egg McMuffin, Happy Meal and Big Mac purchased at all locations this past Wednesday. The raised funds will be given to the local Ronald McDonald House as well as local children’s charities, including McMaster Children’s Hospital, Child Abuse Council of Hamilton, City Kids and Kids Fest.

Ian McDonald, Manager of the Ottawa Street and Main location commented that, “If you get the chance to see what they do at the Ronald McDonald House, it’s really phenomenal when you see what they do for families that end up staying there and you know that the charity is supporting this one hundred percent.”

This year breakfast was served to customers with the help of offensive lineman Peter Dyakowski and offensive lineman Cedric Gagne Marcoux. Both guys took turns serving at the front counter and at the drive-thru window, while fans received autographs with their egg McMuffin and coffee.

“I was learning how to run the till, I need to have a backup plan; need to make sure I acquire as many skills as possible,” said an enthusiastic Dyakowski.

The enthusiasm of the players continued during the lunch hour with linebacker Ray Mariuz and safety Sandy Beveridge. The Dundurn location caught the attention of many hungry customers as Stripes showed off his dance skills outside. Inside Mariuz and Beveridge were joined by former Canadian Idol winner Brian Melo, Paula Schnurr and local media hosts from around the city.

“All the money we raise in Hamilton stays in the Hamilton community,” stated Doug Inch Owner and Operator of the Dundurn location. “The Ticats are great city supporters, they’re awesome!”

With Mariuz and Beveridge behind the counter, donations were made and pictures with fans were taken.

“The best part of the day is that all the money is going to charity, that’s why we’re all out here. That’s why everyone is coming in and buying Big Macs and Happy Meals, so we’re having a great time,” commented Sandy Beveridge.

The 16 locations in Hamilton, with the help of the Ticats, raised a total of $31,500 that will be donated to the aforementioned charities.
