Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has signed import defensive back and Canadian Football League All-Star Chris Thompson to a contract extension.
“We’re very happy that Chris has agreed to lengthen his career with the Ticats,” said general manager Bob O’Billovich. “His cover ability, athleticism and great hands make him an outstanding all-around defensive back. Chris will continue to solidify our secondary and remain a key part of our defence. ”
Thompson, a 6-0, 189-pound native of New Orleans, Louisiana was named an East Division and CFL All-Star in 2008 after tying for the league lead with nine interceptions. In his first season with the Ticats, Thompson also added 60 defensive tackles, two special teams tackles, ten pass knockdowns and one fumble recovery.
The Nicholls State product started all 18 games at halfback for the Ticats after arriving in a trade with the Edmonton Eskimos on February 13, 2008. He was the Ticats nominee for both Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Defensive Player at the end of the season.
