This Saturday, to help kickoff Family Literacy Week 2009 in Hamilton, the Tiger-Cats are going to do their part to help make history in Canada.
On Saturday, Ticats players will be present in three locations: Peter Dyakowski in Hamilton, Nick Kordic in London, and George Hudson in St. Catharines. They will be assisting ABC CANADA, as they encourage all Canadians to participate between 2 p.m. EST on January 23 and 2 p.m. EST on January 24, 2009 in the attempt to break the Guinness World Record for “Most Children Reading With an Adult, Multiple Locations.” All Canadians will have to read Munschworks 2, by Robert Munsch.
The event is part of this year’s celebrations for Family Literacy Week, which surround Family Literacy Week January 27. Events are held in schools, libraries, literacy organizations and community centres across the country.
Family Literacy Day was created by ABC CANADA Literacy Foundation in 1999 to promote the importance of reading and learning together as a family all year round. Every year on January 27, families and communities across Canada celebrate this special day at literacy-themed events coordinated by literacy organizations, schools, public libraries and families.
In addition to the thousands of individuals, groups, and families across Canada, who have embraced Family Literacy Day, the Ticats have donated time and their services to help ABC CANADA spread the word.
