The Tiger-Cats Student Athletic Award

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are proud to partner with the Education Foundation of Niagara (EFN) and the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN), as together we help to empower the youth in our communities and build upon the increasing popularity of our sport in the Niagara region. It is a great day seeing our organizations working together and will hopefully be the first of many joint ventures. Eight DSBN secondary schools and a total of 750 participants will take part this season, by joining the crowd at the October 24 game between the Tiger-Cats and the Calgary Stampeders. The Tiger-Cats program is designed to aid schools in raising money for their football programs, helping to cultivate a passion and knowledge for the game of football and teach students the values of dedication, commitment, and teamwork.

This year, the first ever $1,000 Tiger-Cats Student Athletic Award will be awarded at the game to Grimsby Secondary School Football Team Captain Victor Bibby. An exemplary student who has demonstrated excellence as a student athlete and as a student committed to his studies, friends and peers. Victor has been the captain of the football team since grade 10 and has led his team to victory in many games. He is also dedicated to basketball and was the second-leading scorer in 2007 earning him MVP awards in each of his past two season with the team. Victor provides leadership to his fellow students through anti-drug programs at the school and the community as a “Peer Educator.”

The presentation of the award will be made on the field during the game and other participating students will take part in the showing of the colours prior to the game. The whole evening is a collaborative effort between the Tiger-Cats, EFN, and DSBN demonstrating how we can all “achieve success together.” We are looking forward to a strong and prosperous future together in TigerTown.
