What's In A Number: Hage/Thomas/ Dyakowski/Hudson

What’s In A Number: Hage/Thomas/Dyakowski/Hudson

#62

Marwan Hage

Centre

“Originally I was 54, and there used to be a player that played in Montreal who I kind of followed, Richard Mercier. He was 62 in Miami and he was a family friend, so whenever I would go to an All-Star team or Team Quebec, I would play as 62, even though my number was 54, because I wanted to emulate him and play at a high level. When I moved up I said ‘I’m going to play at a high level all the time,’ and I dropped 54 and grabbed 62.”

#65

Charles Thomas

Offensive Tackle

“Well 65 came about because I am 6-feet, 5-inches tall and that was also the reason that when my wife saw me she decided to give me a shot. In college I had 74, and I wanted to get 74 in Hamilton and they said that would make me an eligible receiver and I told them that’s great I can help the team out even more, but they didn’t go for it, so I said just give me 65. It fits me good, it’s good for my body size because the six and the five have some round edges but it’s still sleek not like anything Pete (Dyakowski) would wear, like a seven.”

#67

Peter Dyakowski

Offensive Guard

“Well my four favourite numbers are 1, 3, 16 and 47, and since none of those are numbers I can wear as an offensive lineman I decided to combine all of them and that’s how I got 67. I had 77 in college, but that’s only because I’ve just warmed up to 47 recently, before that 57 was one of my favourite numbers. I had some bad luck with 57 and decided it was time for a change and 47 seemed really appealing.”

#52

George Hudson

Offensive Guard

“Originally it got thrown to me in high school. I was in ninth grade and I didn’t
even know if I wanted to play football or not, and it was kind of like,‘Here’s your number kid.’ I liked it. It’s a good football number. I kept it in college and then when I went to Edmonton I had it there, and now I have it here. I’m kind of lucky I got to stick with it all the way through.”
