MFTM: Geoff Hicks

I would have to say for my favourite TigerTown memories would be the Ticats trips to Montreal.

I went on three of the trips with the Tiger Cats. The first trip that I remember was back in 1999. There were about 500 fans for this game in Montreal. The Ticats fans filled the back of the end zone at the Alouettes stadium. In that game, with just over a minute left and the Ticats leading the game 15-14, Montreal was on the Cats one-yard line.

I remember turning to my dad and telling him that on this play Anthony Cavillo will do a QB sneak and big Joe Montford will stuff him at the line. My dad looked over and says I bet he will. The ball is snapped and Cavillo tries to sneak into the end zone and sure enough Joe Montford was right there waiting for him at the goal line.

The Ticats went on to win the game 15-14. After the game the fans and the players got to ride on the same train back to Hamilton. I was so thrilled to see my favourite players on the train. One of the first guys to come out and thank the fans for coming down was Carl Coulter.

First, I asked right away for his autograph and then I asked him for a few pointers on how to play on the O-line. Carl looked at me and smiled and said “For sure buddy.” He came over and sat with my family and I. Carl and I talked for at least an hour about football and almost everything. Later on that night I heard music and I went to investigate. I saw Danny Mac playing the guitar with a few other players and all the fans rocking out with the players. That trip was definitely my favourite TigerTown Moment.
