John Williams
Running Back
“A lot of famous people wore this number, but the reason why I wear it is because of my dad. He was a Ticat and won the 1972 Grey Cup. I wanted to follow along in my father’s steps. I also wore it in high school, and September 23 is my birthday, so you can see number 23 pops in and out of my life, like the movie. When I played on the dark side with the Argos, I wore number 11, and funny thing about that is I remember Ricky Williams wore it in college briefly, although when he got to the Argonauts I never would have told him it was because of him I chose 11. Then when I came to the Ticats I wanted to change it up, you know new beginning, new number and I also wanted to honour my dad.”

Linebacker
“There’s no great story really. When I was in my first year at McMaster University they gave me 44 and I stuck with it all the way through. When I was drafted by the Argos they didn’t have 44, so I took 36. Then when I came back to my Hamilton roots to play as a Ticat, I said I wanted 44, a new number for a fresh start. I don’t know what it is, but I really like 44.”

Long Snapper
“Originally, I started out with 47, and then Ron Lancaster changed my number to 38, so I could be eligible on field goals. In high school I wore the big number 54 and I also felt good with that one playing linebacker on those championship teams. I like number 38 though, it makes me feel quick, and athletic.”
