Ticats Confidential: August 28

By: Justin Boone

The last of three extra practices wrapped up Wednesday with QB Casey Printers, RB Jesse Lumsden, and WR Tony Miles all on the field and taking reps with the first team offence, a good sign for Ticats faithful getting ready to take in the Labour Day Classic Monday.

– It’s still up in the air, no pun intended, as to who will start against the Argos Monday night. Printers has been splitting the snaps in practice with QB Richie Williams, and both quarterbacks are intently involved in the offence. When one is leading the huddle, the other is still listening in on what play is being called and the two work very well together, as was seen on The Casey Printers Radio Show presented by Stirling Print Solutions this week.

– WR Chris Bauman continues to improve his hands, making catches in his sophomore season that he wasn’t making a year ago this time. On Wednesday, he pulled in a pass that was an inch or two off the turf, turning what could have been an incompletion into a first down. Now he just needs to get targeted more during actual games.

– Speaking of slotbacks, WR Ernie Jackson was making catches all over the field to the pleasure of wide receivers coach Dennis Goldman. Keep an eye on him over the next few weeks to sneak onto the actual roster from the practice roster.

– A big welcome, emphasis on big, to 6’2, 285-pound defensive tackle Tory Collins, who has joined Jackson on the Ticats PR. Coming from the Chicago Bears, Collins is the first of what could be a few NFL cuts signed by Obie.

– Practice was long over, but WR Eddie Cohen was still running routes and catches passes from the team’s fifth string quarterback, Danny McManus. On top of making the throws, D-Mac was working closely with Cohen, giving him tips on the precision of his routes as they worked the length of the field.

– DB Dylan Barker is progressing in his recovery, now sporting a walking boot as he takes in practice from the sidelines.

– Check out FB Jeff Piercy’s latest blog on CFL.ca. It’s become a staple around the business office and the stadium…“Please Marwan, I know your car dealer’s family is in town, and you like to fan yourself with unused game tickets, but could I at least have two tickets for my grandparents?”
