In my mind, the most exciting moment in TigerTown history had to be Tony Champion’s flipped over backward catch at the end of the fourth quarter during the 1989 Grey Cup in Toronto. Champion was injured as well, making it that much more incredible. Unfortunately the Ticats didn’t win the game, but it was perhaps the most exciting Grey Cup of all time. However, My Favourite TigerTown Moment is much more personal.

In the early 1960’s, the Cats brought high school students down to learn the game of football.  Two of the players on hand to work with the students were the great quarterback Bernie Faloney and lineman Vince Scott. Bernie was one of the greatest ever to play this game and Vince was the fastest two-yard man in the business. We worked out with those guys and other players for several days. I was very impressed with the organization and the dedication of the players. The inspiration I took from those workouts have stayed with me all my life.

About ten years later I moved to Toronto and co-founded the Canadian Ball Hockey Association. Today, Ball Hockey now has world championships. The first step in that inspiration took place on the field at Civic Stadium way back in the early 1960’s.

I still attend Tiger-Cats games and think back on Bernie and Vince so long ago. Thank you for those life lessons taught on the field of play.
