Ticats Confidential: July 24

On the eve of their battle with Edmonton, the Tiger-Cats are preparing to make a move in the East with a win Friday night.

– The team practiced kickoff coverage extensively on Wednesday in preparation for Tristan Jackson who has been the Special Teams Player of the Week two consecutive times now, a unanimous selection on both occasions. K/P Nick Setta will be doing his best to direct his punts into poor spots for Jackson.

– Fans living near Ivor Wynne can likely hear the chants of D-Fence being pumped through the sound system. The starting lineups on both sides of the ball have continued to practice with synthetic noise in the stadium, simulating gameday. The team is expecting a great turnout to the game and is covering all bases as they look to get a win in front of their home crowd.

– Casey Printers was accidentally kicked during practice Wednesday, but still managed to complete the pass. He came up limping and the first trainer on the scene was none other than Jesse Lumsden, who made sure his quarterback was uninjured. Good news though as Casey was fine and got back behind centre a few plays later.

Prechae Rodriguez gives the team a new option downfield after making his debut last week. Casey and Richie Williams both took their turns throwing the ball up and allowing him to make plays during practice this week. Chris Bauman has made quite an impact of his own and has showed improved hands in his first start two weeks ago.  This week the honour goes to Jo Jo Walker, who gets his first action of the season replacing the injured Tony Miles.

– The fire offence had extra incentive to beat the clock this week as rain, and more importantly lightning rolled in over Ivor Wynne during practice. Players showed a little more giddy up in their step as they sprinted to the line and charged towards the end zone. Maybe a thunderstorm during the game wouldn’t be so bad.

– There will be a star-studded cast at midfield for the coin toss Friday, as the captains will Zeke Moreno (Defence), Casey Printers (Offence) and Nick Setta (Special Teams).
