What’s In A Number: Glasper/Piercy/Gordon

#8

Ryan Glasper

Safety

“Last year I was number 40, and that wasn’t for me. I’m not going to say it was a bad number because Cameron Siskowic has it now and it looks fabulous on him, but it wasn’t a number for me. I wanted a single digit. Even when I was in college I would have preferred a single digit, but I went with 24 because nothing else was available. I think number eight fits me, there’s something about it I like. It fits me better, and it just looks better. Eight is where it’s going to be at now.”

#34

Jeff Piercy

Full Back

“Fear has motivated my number picking my whole career. Number 34 was just given to me in grade nine, and I didn’t know anything about football and wasn’t sure if it was a sweet number. Then I find out George Reed and Walter Payton wore 34. Then I moved to Saskatoon in grade 10 and one of the running backs wore two and my coach thought it would be cool if I wore number three. So I was three all through high school and then when I got to college, three was unavailable so they said how about 30? I agreed. When I got drafted to the Alouettes, Mike Botterill was wearing 30, I even looked him up on the internet to see who he was, who was this guy wearing my number? (Laughs). So then when I signed my contract, 34 just appeared by my name on the internet, and again I was scared again to say anything so I just kept 34. So basically fear has led to my number picking my whole career.”

#29

Lawrence Gordon

Defensive Back

“29 was the number assigned to me when I first came, I’ve actually thought about changing it once or twice, but you know what I’m going to stick with it. The number doesn’t make the person, the person makes the number, so I’m figuring that if I play well, maybe there will be some young fans in the crowd watching, that when they grow up they’ll want number 29 because Lawrence Gordon represented that number.”
