All-Star Status

Anthony Malbrough
CFL.ca

You are entering The Malbrough Files! Here you will receive an in-depth analysis of information from many aspects of the CFL through the mind of a seven-year veteran defensive back of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Training camp is now over, and finally the real season begins. Before one game is ever played, every team has one common goal, and that is to make it to the Grey Cup! Each player has individual goals that they want to achieve over the season, and being an all-star is one of the goals that many players share across the league. Being recognized as one of the best players at your position for that year is the ultimate compliment for an athlete. It is the gratification of knowing that your peers and everyone involved in the selection process recognizes you as a top performer in your sport.

Outside of the team goals, individual accomplishments are very special as well. And, when you reach such a status, there are many benefits that come along with it. Many players have incentives built into their contracts that will reward them for being named an all-star. It is especially big when you are going into a free agency year because that means your stock is up and there may be more interest in you as a player, not only from your own team but also from other teams throughout the league. No matter what happened the year before, or what will happen the year after, for that one year you were named the best and no one can take that away from you!

I have put together a list of early favourites at each position for enjoyment. Please understand that I am a player, but I am also a big fan. Thanks for reading the Malbrough Files, enjoy!
