Ticats All-Stars Give Back To Community

Hamilton, Ontario – Hamilton Tiger-Cats offensive lineman Marwan Hage and kicker Nick Setta announced today plans for separate, player-driven community initiatives for the 2008 season.

Hage will spearhead Hage’s Heroes, which debuted in 2007. Through Hage’s Heroes, the 2007 East Division All-Star will bring over 500 kids to Ivor Wynne Stadium to enjoy Ticats home games throughout the season. Before kickoff, Hage meets with all participants and presents them with a special gift after a meal and a motivational speech.

“It’s a privilege to give back to the great city of Hamilton. I’ve always enjoyed working with kids and I look forward to doing so for the rest of my career,” said Hage. “I also want to acknowledge my great sponsors that make this program possible; Echo Freight, Great Lakes Feeder Lines, Centre 68 and Reebok”

Hage will also take part in a turkey drop-off at Thanksgiving, delivering turkeys to deserving families in Hamilton and will make financial contributions to local Hamilton charities.

Setta will launch Setta’s Kicks For Kids presented by Carmen’s Banquet Centre, a program designed to raise money to provide underprivileged children in the Hamilton area with shoes. For every field goal the 2007 CFL All-Star successfully completes over 40 yards, Carmen’s will donate $100 for each yard beyond 40 (ie. A 43-yard field goal would generate a $300 donation). At the end of the season, Setta and the Ticats will match contributions made by Carmen’s.

“I look forward to taking part in something that will make a difference in local children’s lives,” said Setta. “I’d also like to thank Carmen’s for their generosity in this partnership.”
