Bringing the roar to Ivor Wynne Stadium is something the fans normally take responsibility for, but last season in the Ticats biggest win of the year, a 43-22 trouncing of the Blue Bombers, there was a special guest that helped Ticats faithful to increase the levels of intimidation, Robbie the Tiger.
On Monday, when CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon and Tiger-Cats President Scott Mitchell spoke about the upcoming season opener, they were joined by world-renown illusionist Greg Frewin and one of Robbie’s brethren, Boomer.
Frewin will be bringing his stage show to the football field for a halftime show that rivals anything ever attempted at IWS.
With a career that has taken him all around the world, Frewin returns to his hometown of Hamilton, to dazzle the audience at this year’s CFL season opener.
“When I was a kid we used to come down and watch the Ticats, we’d try to get into the cheap seats cause we didn’t have a lot of money. So for me this is really, really cool.”
When asked what fans can expect from his magic show Thursday, Frewin stayed true to the Alliance of Magicians, declining to give away any of the secrets surrounding his production. It will be interesting to see how he plans to convert his award-winning stage show to a stadium presentation.
Hopefully Boomer, who was donning a personalized Ticats jersey on Monday, makes a return and gives the Ticats the same boost that they had when Robbie on hand in their blowout win last year.
