Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today that the team has extended the contract of import defensive end Charlton Keith through 2010 and added import defensive linemen Matt King and Sir Henry Anderson.
Keith started all eight games he appeared in last season after signing with the Ticats as a free agent on September 12. He recorded 24 defensive tackles, four quarterback sacks, two tackles for a loss and two fumble recoveries and was named the CFL’s Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Week 13.
“Charlton came in last season and made an immediate impact on our defence. His combination of size and quickness creates problems for the opposition,” said general manager Bob O’Billovich. “We’re very happy to keep Charlton in Black and Gold.”
King, a 6-3, 245-pound native of Stoughton, Massachusetts, played four seasons (2002-06) at Maine where he recorded 137 defensive tackles, 14 quarterback sacks, 28 tackles for a loss, five forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in 37 games. Following the 2006 season, King was named a First-Team All-Atlantic 10 selection and was a finalist for the Buck Buchanan Award, which is presented annually to the nation’s most outstanding Division I-AA defensive player.
Anderson, a 6-3, 314-pound native of Oakland, California played four years (2002-05) at Oregon State, making 65 tackles, 17.5 tackles for a loss, six quarterback sacks, three pass knockdowns, one forced fumble, one blocked kick and was a second-team All-Pac 10 selection as a senior. After his collegiate career, Anderson signed with the NFL’s New York Giants.
