Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats continue to bolster their roster announcing today that they have signed 2007 second round draft pick Jordan Rempel, import defensive tackle DeVonte Peterson, import wide receiver William Mayfield and non-import fullback/defensive end Tim Smith today. All four players will attend training camp with the Ticats later this month.
“Depth is always a key to any successful team,” said general manager Marcel Desjardins. “With the additions of our second round pick Jordan, Will, Tim and the return of DeVonte, these acquisitions give us a great deal of depth at key positions. Going into camp each of these players will have an opportunity to demonstrate how they can help our team win.”
Rempel, a 6-6, 322-pound offensive lineman was selected in the second round (12th overall) of the 2007 CFL Canadian Draft earlier this month. The Caronport, Saskatchewan native was named to the Canada West All-Star team and was a finalist for the J.P. Metras trophy as the top lineman in CIS after this past season. He is 22.
Mayfield, a 6-2, 220-pound native of Durham, North Carolina spent four seasons at Appalachian State where he played two years as a linebacker before converting to a wide receiver for his final two seasons. Last season, the 23-year-old caught 64 passes for 1,129 yards and five touchdowns and was a first-team All-Southern Conference selection after leading the Mountaineers to their second consecutive 1-AA national championship.
Smith, a 6-0, 235-pound native of Edmond, Washington played five seasons at Simon Fraser, making 120 solo tackles, two forced fumbles, one interception and five quarterback sacks.
The Ticats also announced that they have released non-import kickers Pat Fleming and Brian Devlin.
