Hamilton, Ontario – The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced today the team has signed import quarterback Timmy Chang after acquiring his negotiation rights from the Edmonton Eskimos on February 13th, 2007.
“When we dealt Jason (Goss) to Edmonton, the priority in that trade for our team was to get Tim’s name on a contract,” said general manager Marcel Desjardins. “He’s a guy who did incredible things in college and has had success at the professional level. With Tim’s addition, the quarterback position is now a position of strength for our team and will help us achieve success. After speaking with Tim on the phone, he conveyed that he’s very excited at the opportunity to come to Hamilton and of course we’re thrilled to have him here.”
Chang, a 6-2, 207-pound native of Honolulu, Hawaii, rewrote the NCAA record book in five seasons (2000-2004) at the University of Hawaii, becoming the NCAA’s all-time leader in passing yards (17,072), completions (1,388) and attempts (2,436) along with throwing the second-most touchdowns (117) in Division I history.
After completing his collegiate career, Chang gained professional experience with the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles, as well as NFL Europe’s Rhein Fire.
The Ticats acquired the negotiation rights to Chang, in addition to import receiver Richard Alston, non-import receiver Nicolas Bisaillon and a second round draft pick in the 2007 CFL Canadian College Draft in exchange for Goss in a trade with the Eskimos on February 13th, 2007.
