The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced Friday that Louis “Louie B.” Butko will join the organization in a brand new role as the club’s Digital Host across all Ticats platforms.
As Digital Host, Butko will be bring Ticats fans closer to the team than ever before with breaking news, insights and analysis, exclusive interviews and unique behind the scenes content exclusive to
Ticats.ca. Butko will also host the first-ever official podcast of the Tiger-Cats to debut ahead of the 2020 CFL season.
“We’re continually looking for ways to enhance and evolve the way we deliver Tiger-Cats content to our fans via social media and
Ticats.ca,” said Matt Afinec, President and Chief Operating Officer of the Tiger-Cats. “Louis has an extensive track record covering this franchise and has become a voice Tiger-Cats fans trust. We’re lucky to have him on board.”
Butko has significant experience reporting on the Tiger-Cats, having spent four years in various roles covering the team with TSN 1150 Hamilton. In his time on Hamilton’s first sports-talk station, he worked as a sideline reporter, attended daily practices and hosted the popular “Ticats Today” podcast.

A graduate of the Niagara College Broadcasting program, Butko spent 2019 covering the inaugural Canadian Premier League season with MediaPro’s OneSoccer. He served as their Forge FC lead reporter during the team’s championship run, and was the main sideline reporter during the Canadian Championships and select Canadian Men’s National team games on OneSoccer across North America. Additionally, Butko reported from the sidelines for Cable 14 during their live McMaster Marauders football broadcasts last season. He also provided colour analysis for the Hamilton Bulldogs for three seasons, including their 2018 OHL Championship and Memorial Cup run.
Butko has deep roots to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats having attended games throughout his youth growing up in nearby Fonthill, Ontario, and is the nephew of former quarterback and ’86 Grey Cup Champion Mike Kerrigan.
